BUDGET WORKSESSION

ROLL CALL - Councilor Jacobs, McNabb, Hunter and Dempsey, Mayor Carnicelli Present.
City Staff present: City Manager John Salomone, Corporation Counsel Tom Leone, City Clerk Debra McCormick, Lisa Green Assistant Comptroller, Fire Chief Mike Quill, Police Chief Gary Giannotta, Jerry Del Favero Superintendent Public Works.
City Manager John Salomone and Jerry Del Favero Superintendent of Public Works began with the Public Works budget. The City Manager reviewed Public Works Garage, Parks, Streets, Water and Sewer Maintenance budgets. Items discussed by staff and council included Holiday lighting, Tree planting, position upgrades and staffing.
The City Manager and Police Chief reviewed the Police Department budget with council. Items discussed included School Resource Officers and the parking program.
The City Manager and the Fire Chief reviewed the Fire Department budget with council. Mayor Carnicelli asked Councilor McNabb to take over the meeting because she needed to leave early.
Before she left this meeting, Council discussed how to proceed with budget process. Mayor Carnicelli suggested that the meeting on Thursday May 23 not include budget discussion so that council has time to review entire budget and put suggested changes in writing to the Manager by Monday or Tuesday (5/28 & 29) for discussion on May 30 during the Budget Public Hearing. Councilor Dempsey said he wanted to continue discussion on Thursday the 23rd. Mayor Carnicelli stated that putting changes in writing will help the manager prepare how changes will impact budget. She also pointed out that the meeting of the 23rd is very full of business without considering the budget. Mr. Salomone pointed out that Fire and Police were moved to Tuesday from Thursday to lighten up that
evening
Fire Department budget discussion resumed briefly. Items discussed by council included overtime, safety and dollars saved due to work of safety personnel.
